When you're finished sipping coffee, most people generally will get rid of the dregs left in the bottom of the Cup. But when the Lees want to actually be utilized again because the study proves there is still a remaining content of antioxidants.


The antioxidant itself is a compound that can protect the body against the negative effects of free radicals. Antioxidants keep your cells stay healthy is not damaged due to the influence of free radicals which when left alone can lead to cancer.

Researcher Maria-Paz de Pena and his team in the reports that have been published in the journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry says when processed with the proper way the coffee dregs can produce high antioxidant. In some cases existing antioxidant content could even exceed what is in coffee.

"Therefore the dregs of coffee has the potential to become a food additive materials with the goal of improving the health effects of other food products," said the researcher was quoted as saying of the American Chemical Society, Monday (19/12/2016).


Antioxidant in the body indeed is produced naturally, however some types of antioxidants can only be obtained from an external source. According to another study by researchers from Harvard Medical School those who routinely consume coffee could have a 50 percent lower likelihood of developing cancer of the breast, colon, and rectum than the general population.

"In conclusion, this study shows consuming coffee can bring health impacts more than the disadvantages," comments Tomas DePaulis from Vanderbilt University.
